U.S., Japan vow cooperation on non-proliferation, to expand cooperation in clean energy

U.S. President Barack Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama promised on Friday close cooperation on nuclear non-proliferation, and to expand cooperation in clean energy technologies. The governments said in a joint statement.

日本は核安全保障に関する会議を来年1月に主催することに同意した。

Japan agreed to host a conference in January on nuclear security.

両首脳はまた、イランと北朝鮮が核プログラムについての国際的な責務を果たすことが重要との認識で一致し、北朝鮮に対して6カ国協議への復帰を促した。

The two leaders agreed that it was vital for Iran and North Korea to uphold their international obligations on their nuclear programs, urged North Korea to return to six-party talks.

クリーンエネルギー技術に関しては、次世代送電網である「スマートグリッド」や二酸化炭素の回収・貯蔵技術の開発で協力する。

In clean energy technologies, the two sides would work together in areas such smart grids, carbon capture and storage.
