Space hotel says it's on schedule to open in 2012
The Galactic Suite Ltd (www.galacticsuite.com), a company behind plans to open the first hotel in space says it is on target to accept its first paying guests in 2012, told Reuters Television.
バルセロナを拠点とする建築家らが進める同プロジェクトによると、3日間の宇宙滞在とそれに先立って南国の島で行われる8週間の訓練にかかる費用は440万ドル（約4億円）だという。
Barcelona-based architects of the project say it will cost 3 million euro ($4.4 million) for a three-night stay at the space hotel, with this price including an eight-week training course on a tropical island.
同社のサビエル・クララムント最高経営責任者（CEO）は、時間的な問題や財政面から実現性を疑問視する声もある同プロジェクトについて、ある富豪から30億ドルの出資を受けたと説明。「15年以内に、子どもたちが宇宙で週末を過ごすようになると考えるのはごく自然のこと」と話した。
Galactic Suite Ltd's CEO Xavier Claramunt said an anonymous billionaire space enthusiast has granted $3 billion to finance the project, despite critics questioning the investment and time frame for the multi-billion dollar project. "It's very normal to think that your children, possibly within 15 years, could spend a weekend in space," he told.
計画では、地球から約450キロの軌道上に宿泊客4人と操縦士2人が滞在できる施設を設置する予定で、施設への往復にはロケットが使用される。
Galactic Suite hopes to start its project with a single pod in orbit 450 km (280 miles) above the earth with the capacity to hold four guests and two astronaut-pilots, with the transport rocket to go and return.
同社によると、プロジェクトには200人以上が関心を示し、43人が既に予約を済ませているという。
More than 200 people have expressed an interest in traveling to the space hotel and at least 43 people have already reserved, the company said.
