Peter Criss (63), founding member of rock band KISS, is making the rounds to tell them even tough rocker guys like him can suffer from a disease usually associated with women -- breast cancer, during this October as "National Breast Cancer Awareness Month".

クリスさんはロイターの取材で、胸の異変は自然に消えてしまうと考え、治療を受けようとしない男性が多すぎると話し、「誰にでも起こりうることだ」と強調した。

"It can happen to you, and when it does, if you don't deal with it right away, with your 'dude' and your metal and your tattoos, you'll go in the box and we'll see you," Criss told Reuters.

クリスさんが、左胸のしこりに気が付いたのは、2007年12月。2008年2月に腫瘍（しゅよう）と周辺の組織のみを切除した後、翌月に乳房切除術を受けた。

Criss discovered a lump in his left nipple in December 2007. He underwent a lumpectomy in February 2008 and a mastectomy the following month.

男性が乳がんになるケースは女性の100分の1くらいだが、命に関わることは変わらない。米国がん協会の推計によると、ことしの男性の乳がん発症件数は1910件に上るとみられ、乳がんで命を落とす米国人男性の数は年間約440人に上る見通しだという。

While breast cancer among men is one hundred times less common than among women, it can be deadly. The American Cancer Society estimated there will be 1,910 new cases of male breast cancer in 2009, and about 440 U.S. men will die this year from the disease.
