EU presidency says G20 leaders may meet again soon on climate
G20 leaders may meet again in the coming months to help prod negotiations for a climate change pact ahead of United Nations talks in December in Copenhagen, Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, whose country holds the EU presidency, said on Friday.
Reinfeldt told reporters following the close of the Group of 20 summit meeting here that leaders hold the key to unlocking stalled negotiations on a new treaty to reverse global warming.
"The consensus around the table was that if we want to achieve the breakthroughs necessary for Copenhagen, it must come from us leaders first," Reinfeldt said. "We agreed to go away and come back and speak to each other in a few weeks, and we felt we should meet possibly before Copenhagen, even via video conference or something. But we may have a meeting," he added.
