過去5世紀で地球上から絶滅した動植物は800種を超え、現在は1万7000種以上が絶滅の危機にひんしている。国際自然保護連合（IUCN）が明らかにした。
IUCNの新たな分析によると、西暦1500年以降に姿を消した野生生物は869種。

More than 800 wildlife species extinct in the past five centuries = IUCN

More than 800 animal and plant species have gone extinct in the past five centuries with nearly 17,000 now threatened with extinction, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) reported.
The new analysis of IUCN shows 869 species became extinct in the wild since the year 1500.

また、現在は少なくとも1万6928種が絶滅の危機にひんしており、両生類の約3分の1と哺乳類の約4分の1がその中に含まれている。
2004年に発表された絶滅危ぐ種を掲載したレッド・リストでは、1500年以降に絶滅した動物は784種だった。

At least 16,928 species are threatened with extinction, including nearly one-third of amphibians and nearly a quarter of mammals.
Red List, announced endangered species in the 2004, showed 784 extinctions since 1500.
