米下院は26日、地球温暖化対策法案を可決した。環境問題を最優先課題のひとつに掲げるオバマ政権にとり大きな勝利となった。The U.S. House passes the climate change bill, the President praises it as a "historic action"
The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation for anti-global warming on 26th. It is a major victory to President Obama who listed environment problem as a one of the priorities.
下院は法案を賛成219、反対212で可決。共和党の賛成は8票にとどまった。民主党は44人が反対に回った。
法案は今後、上院で審議されるが、年内の可決は不透明な状態。
一方、米上院のリード民主党院内総務は採決後、上院でも秋には法案が可決されることを期待していると述べた。
The House passed the bill by a vote of 219 favors and 212 dissents. There were only eight Republicans joining Democrats for the bill. Forty-four Democrats voted against it.
The legislation still must get through the Senate but prospects for this year were uncertain.
After the House vote, the U.S. Democratic Senate Majority Leader Reid said he hoped the Senate can pass a bill this fall.

一方、米上院のリード民主党院内総務は採決後、上院でも秋には法案が可決されることを期待していると述べた。

法案は、国内大手企業に温室効果ガスの排出量を、2020年までに2005年比で17％、2050年までに83％削減することを義務付けている。
President Obama praised the House for taking "historic action" and urged the Senate to act. "It's a bold and necessary step that holds the promise of creating new industries and millions of new jobs, decreasing our dangerous dependence on foreign oil," President said.
The bill requires that large U.S. companies reduce emissions of greenhouse gases by 17 percent by 2020 and 83 percent by 2050, from 2005 levels.
