Japan agreed to buy 40 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions from Czech Republic
Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced on 31st that the Japanese government signed final agreement with the Czech Republic to purchase 40 million tons of emissions about the emissions trading of greenhouse gases under the Kyoto Protocol.
The emissions trading between the Japanese government and the Czech Republic is a kind of international emissions trading Stipulated in the Kyoto Protocol. It utilizes "Green Investment Scheme" (GIS) to use the purchase price for the fight against global warming in the Czech Republic. Specifically, it covers the promotions of the use of renewable energy, the promotions of energy saving in housing sector and the deal related to the promotion of technology transfer from Japan.
Japan plans to get one billion tons of emissions during the five-years from 2008 to 2012. So far, the scale of the contract in the "clean development mechanism" (CDM) which to gain emissions credits in exchange for investing in projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries is achieved more than 23 million tons by fiscal 2008. The Japanese government's plan for emissions acquisition is believed to have been almost cleared with adding 30 million tons from Ukraine and 40 million tons from the Czech Republic to these 23 million tons of emissions credits.
