The Green New Deal will require about 70 trillion yen = UNEP
Achim Steiner, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), said "Green New Deal" which stimulates the world economy through environment would be needed about $7500 billion (approximately ¥72 trillion) of investment on 19th. That could be financed by taxes on oil.
According to the UNEP report which will be presented in 20 countries (G20) summit (the inancial summit) held in London on April 2nd, for the realization of "Green New Deal", it will be required to the 1% of global gross domestic product (GDP) or about 7500 billion U.S. dollars of investment. It is said that investment should be used for renewable energy and energy efficiency of buildings, improving the transportation system, improvement of agriculture, nature conservation and etc.
Executive Director Steiner said there is a need to secure funding as soon as possible for addressing the post-Kyoto framework which will be discussed in Copenhagen on December. As financial resources, it has proposed the possibility of taxation of oil in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) member countries.
